Thanks for that suggestion Beejay. I understand reave = rob, and I suppose the other bit is re Ave as in Ave Maria. I just didn't like it much & wondered if anyone else had a better idea or reason.

Thanks Slaney. All is now clear! I'd spelled obstetrician (anag cabinet riots) wrong !! Oh dear - very senior moment!

I think reave is correct.... "on" in the clue = re +ave (according to Chambers:a recitation of the prayer to the Virgin Mary, in full, Ave Maria))
