2. This might have to do with subjects at university, all seemed to study languages. Rory Bremner did French and German, Paula also studied French and German, Beckett 'Romance languages', and Adie 'Scandinavian studies'.
Don't know what Adie's French is like, but Paula is certainly fluent, and I think Beckett sometimes wrote in French.
