there is a note on the postbox around the corner fro me stating that it is one of the ones that is affected . presumably there should be one on yours - if not, then it may still be ok
I'm not a postie but Royal Mail's last Sunday collection was on 21st October, see here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7065912.stm
From Royal Mail website - don't waste your time posting today

Sunday Collections cessation
From 28th October 2007, we will no longer be collecting mail from business premises or post boxes on a Sunday.

As Royal Mail now operates in a fully competitive postal market we need to work efficiently to ensure our customers continue to receive a high quality of service.

Royal Mail collects from 115,000 post boxes Monday to Saturday and from just 18,000 postboxes on Sundays. Customer demand for a Sunday service is limited and accounts for less than one per cent of all mail posted each week. These small volumes means it costs us four times as much to handle this mail than items collected on other days.

mny thanks I wont bother, but it does mean in most cases I shall have to use 1st class stamp instead of second class.

Hi Dee,

I was thinking of posting the same question - not for crossword entries, but to get my mail-order deliveries on their way. I am glad I didn`t, because although your question is perfectly clear, the two answers are the usual dick-head sort. i.e. Lets answer quick, we won`t read the question properly.

Like you, I could drive five miles to the main SORTING OFFICE for our area which has a posting-slot on it where presumably the letters are not taken out but go into the sorting system directly. Does this mean that post collected from boxes up to Saturday mid-day are all lumped together on Sunday night, sorted, and sent on their way?. I would think this is logical - just as you did.

many tks for your reply, truly I dont know what to think anymore, thats why I hoped a "postie" might reply also.
Our mail at the sorting office does not go direct inside but into an ordinary pillar box so I guess my chances are nil.
I think you are right it all gets collected before 1pm on Sats and gets dumped until Sunday night or have they stopped the Sun night shift altogether and evrything get sorted on early shift on Mon ?
Eventually, you wait and see we will all have to rent PO boxes from the Royal Mail and collect our own mail or pay a them a yearly fee to deliver to our homes.
When I lived in Dubai I used to boast about how wonderful our UK mail service was --- not any more !
best regards Dee
