Not a really a news question, but couldn't think where to put it. My mate and I were talking about speed cameras etc the other night and trying to remember when they first appeared. I'm sure it was the early 80's, but does anyone know when the Gatsos first came to town? I've tried googling, but to no avail.

I'd have sworn it was earlier, but I suppose someone like RoSPA would get their facts right. Thanks Jansy.
You're welcome. My traffic warden friend (whom I happened to be talking online to when I read your posting (he's a slow typer!)) said he thought it was earlier. He said 1978 though, which sounds very early to me.
I thought it was the M4 inbound, around 15 years ago... caught something like 20,000 in its first day.
