Slept on these hoping the grey cells would solve them overnight but still stuck. All I can think of for 6d 'where people eat in the recess' -i-e---, is dinette, but why? and I have nothing for 14a 'way one trapped deserter using horozontal sheets!' s-r--- something to do with sails..?

I thought strata was the plural. (of stratum)
I think you are right JULIEWOOLIE, as sheets (plural) is in the clue.
Can I take back my last answer? I was just about to change my entry when I had second thoughts.:-)
I'm only finding strati as the plural for stratus - clouds
there are quite a few ums and ahs this week!
