Q31 " NAAFI Star " was apparently the common slang name for the 1939/45 Star.

Hi sarumite
Many thanks for your reply

You are doing well if they are the only ones you need!

I think this month is the hardest ever.
Question Author
Hi Peabrain
These aren't the only ones I need, they are just the lowest number questions.I am inclined to agree with you as it certainly a tough one this month and we are struggling.
I note that you haven't left any hints!!!

Hi there
I may have narrowed this down a bit for you. The Olympic games were held in 1984 in Los Angeles. 14 Soviet bloc countries did not attend; neither did Cuba. So that narrows the field quite a bit. India was there, so if I'm on the right track we're looking for another country outside the Soviet Bloc and Cuba who had a soccer team at those Olympic games and whose players defected. So far I'm not having much luck. I may be way off track, but it was the main event of 1984 and a golden opportunity for defectors.

Hi O-ice
Thank you for your reply
I shall certainly follow up your suggestion about the Olympic Games
I shall be posting three more questions later today but I won't be holding my breath as this months quiz is really difficult

"NAAFI Star" is not acceptable answer as NAAFI is in Q (phoneline)

Did you notice the three Challenge questions I posted on Friday 26th?
I haven't had any joy in in answering the first two questions posted on this thread or the three posted on Friday. It really is a very hard quiz this month

I am stuck on loads - have you managed to do 116 (just yes or no - not the answer thanks)
Question Author
Hi Peabrain
Yes I have answered Q116
Thank you for your posting re 119 on the other thread, but I am none the wiser. Is it a sporting question per chance?
spursfan
my posting on the other thread is about 111 - it is a 'challenge' question (I think).

Is 116 to do with a real mountain or is it something cryptic that I haven't spotted?
Question Author
Hi Peabrain
Apologies for my error re Q111 but I am still none the wiser
Yes the answer to Q116 does include a real mountain
