Good Morning from mild and cloudy Ottawa. Can't ski, iceskate nor play golf--good thing for Polymath. Need help with a few: 1D- member of 17th century group of aristocratic hooligans; 17D- in pathology, pertaining to a displacement;19D-underwater explorer; 23D-branching projection of a nerve cell.

well 1d I think the club was The Hellfire Club - I don't know what they were called though - if that helps.

But does it say how mant letters - that may help.
I'm having trouble with it too but I think 17D id HETEROTOPIC and 23D is DENDRON
I still need 1D and 19D though!

I have 6 and 2: T-T-R-T-. As an aside have you noticed that when you google 17th century, dates in the 17 hundreds come up?

11A; German lapis: 13A; China Rose; 24D Twang; 28A Animalcules. Now that I have had to make changes I am left with 21A;A provision for slow motorway traffic 7 and 4( something lane); 22A name of company once noted for motorcycles R-D-L and 29A composer of hymn tune called Laudate Dominum P-R-Y
