Question Author

W
No need to get confused
4 is FOUR LANE ENDS
90 is OAKERTHORPE
You may get inspiration from an unexpected source.
Keep trying!
Question Author
thanks again crofter have answers(right or wrong) for the above now except 49 Not sure about new inspiration but if I can find answers to last few can have a go at guessing the mileage
still needing answers
26. Ask a crow to use two notes
62. this looks like it belongs to a magicians trick; tract of land
66. Take to droop and to draw near and stir
82. Central flying displays
75 last anagram O DREAM TRAY THAN CLOVE picked out Coventry but not rest
Seems unlikely but any winnings to East Anglian Childrens Hospices charity chosen for our sale of calendars this year
Well done! Now note that the route taken is repetitive, so you can expect that some of the answers will reappear. Going down this line of thought, if you have solved No.22 and No.36 then you also have No 26.

Similarly, No 75 also has HOTEL to take out of the anagram (see also No 80).

I tend to donate winnings to Curie Cancer research

I have got Burton Dassett Hills for 16 (this came from an ABer)
and Wootton Wawen for 67
Question Author
OK crofter I'm getting there but still no progress with 49,62,66,24 running out of time....

thanks anyway
W
wendy ...49. Newbold on Stour ??
can you help with 58. xx
Recall that this setter separates words with semicolons. So No. 4 has three words and ek is correct (above)

No 24 has two words and the first is given by the previous clue + voice of an angel!

No. 58 is where all tourists in the area will want to see.

I'm still working on the other two!

58 is Shakespeare's birthplace

now only 62 and 66 left to do
thanks for the tip about semi colons crofter will remember that

my memories of 'O' level grammar don't really stretch to the use of semi colons haven't had need but i had noticed their use in quiz but not realised significance so Matlock is furthering my education too it seems!!
Thanks for the help wendy ... missed your last answer as at work and had already posted. I didn't like this one. You had probably gathered that !!! xx
Question Author
No earthakitten I wasn't keen but spent so much time on it earlier with very limited success, I was determined not to be beaten (in fact it was a real 'timewaster') and sent off with only one answer missing probably to no avail if the post is not first class
W
I sent you PARK AND RIDE BUS and BEG+BROOK+E (appears 3 times) via your other posting.Did you get them?

I ended up guessing the last two at the eleventh hour:
TOLLGATE END and RABBIT something
Question Author
Thanks crofter - yes I did get some 'taxi rides' I struggled for ages trying to get the anagram I AXE DIRT expecting it to be a place then a friend suggested taxi ride which helped to pick up repeats
Begbrooke was another 'confusing' one as my maps had it asBegbroke
At the last minute I found Tollbar End and Preston Bagot as wild guesses
Meantime I'll just wait and see, hoping post was on time, and get on with all the things I should have been doing !anyway
regards W
The previous Matlock Quiz had 3 or 4 real "howlers"
