LIAR = teller of gag - now reverse second half = LIRA etc
GAG can mean "a made-up story, a lie" as well as "a joke, a hoax".
Elderly I see my 'alter ego' has answered your query!

thanks very much to you both.
Hiya K! Usually the only time I can steal a march on you is when COUNTDOWN's on! - or am I mistaken?
Not on this occasion. I was just getting a cup of coffee but managed to drop a carton of cream all over everything and then the phone rang ! Heigh-ho. K
