Thanks 3415anneh, donslot tried link but no joy, Quizmonkey have check these and that is how they are writen.
2 Almost French( Souhaiter que vous etiez ici).
I think 5 is Italian for THEY wish you were here.
No, Burnhal - should be waren - or even wren - and a capital S on Sie. And Geo, surely souhaite (as in first person).
Er, Jane: "have check these and that is how they are writen"??? What hope is there...
QM The question did not specify (I) wish you were here.
1) Welsh?
3) Danish
3. Possibly - Dutch
3) Look here (Denmark site) - you find the phrase

(Google toolbar is supposed to translate)
No1 - Welsh.
No4-Should read Wunsch warst du hier.
No5 -Should read desiderio eravate qui.
Re 4: My other half who speaks German says:
Wunsch Du warst hier
or
Wunsch Sie warren hier
Actually it's ..Wnschen, Sie waren hier.....not a common German phrase ....if they wanted to say... I wish you were here they would phrase it ......Ich wunsche da Sie hier waren.
Or..in the familiar .. Ich wunsch da du hier bit.
Shaneystar2. I am informed that you are absolutely correct and that I should take a typing course.
One disagreement re the familiar. I'm told the last word bist (or whatever that is) is unnecessary.
Methinks we all went a long way from answering the original question with our discussion of the actual German grammar.
Well..as a native German speaker ....I would hardly say,, Ich wunsch da du heir ..That just translates as.. I wish that you here.
Germans speak back to front ..I wish you were here ..translated word for word Ich wunsch da du hier bit ..would be
I wish that you here are !!
You can of course ,also say.. Ich wunsch da du hier war.!
Don't let's be beastly to the Germans ! ( Noel Coward) :)
Danke Shaneystar2. I must say that as a native German speaker your grasp of the English language is magnificent as I see you come up with answers that even the native English speakers, myself included (if Canadians are allowed to make that claim) haven't been able to get for themselves.
