Could we be on the wrong 'track' with No. 99? Nothing suggested so far seems to quite fit. I feel the answer has to be something quite specific because we're looking for "The" up train, as opposed to "An" up train - but I wonder if the answer involves a train at all. An anagram of 'up train' is 'puritan', and I found a steam driven car, circa 1903, called a 'Puritan'. The question setters are always pretty devious with their clues - maybe we ought to be thinking in a completely different area? I don't know - but would welcome any thoughts anyone else may have. This is the last one I have to find - and it's driving me potty!! Oh, I bet those quiz compilers are chuckling at all this! HELP!!!!

Daff 24 Reference 99. I agree with your sentiments and have searched around both Puritan and Union Pacific but so far have come up with nothing. We still have another ten days?
I'll continue the search too Magic1.

I have sent my answers off. I tossed a coin for 99 and put Starlight Express! There have been so many theories and suggestions re this question and I have googled and re-googled. I don't think it's anything to do with Union Pacific - why would it be hyphenated? I had also found 'puritan', but didn't come up with anything positive. However, tried again today (I know it's too late!) and wonder whether it could be PASSENGER STEAMER - The Puritan was one of these?????????????!

Hi Lapis, I found the "Puritan", but I didn't find the reference to Passenger Steamer. I wonder if it could be that - it sounds like a boat, but I know it was a steam driven car. Mmmmmm - thinking .......
daff24: Stupid me! Yes, it's a boat - I had forgotten the title of the quiz!! I have found the reference to the Puritan steam driven car, but.........As I said, it's all too late as far as I'm concerned, but it would be so nice to crack it. The clues in the Rainbow Quizzes are so clever and it gives you a real buzz when you get the correct answer. I have seen nothing to substantiate Starlight Express or any of the other ideas. Back to the drawing board!
