How is it farmers start harvesting a particular crop on the same day. I can understand them all harvesting within a fortnight window but it as I say they start on the same day. Is it just years of experience that tells them the crop is the ready? are there a form of agricultural jungle drums? Is there a code phrase broadcast on the BBC world service?

Thanks for your answer

It really appears far more synchronised than the weather forecast

To use an old farming phrase- "Make hay while the sun shines"

When the barometer reading starts to drop you have to get out there!

Are there any AB farmers?

The sugar beet crop in Norfolk is harvested on the first day of really heavy rain so they can leave mud all over the roads!

Oh Yes, ain't that so

don't diss farmers you lot, if it werent for a little mud on the road, you would have no sugar! and you could always live in town if you get upset my slow moving tractors etc.

my other half worked on a farm for 25 years with chronic back pain and was made redundant 2 years ago and hasnt worked since because of his back. it is wonderful, rewarding bloody hard work with not a lot of thanks but come harvest time, when the crops are ready to be harvested its a beautiful sight and sound in the country :) I miss taking his tea to him in the combine :(

Didn't particularly mean Diss farmers (LOL) but it is in Norfolk.
