For about the last 5 years I've had an intolerance to cheese. It started with just cooked or melted cheese but now I can't eat any at all. What is it in cheese that I would not be tolerant to?

Most likely lactose. How are you with other dairy foods?

Yeah I thought that, though from what I've read (not very much) it's something to do with the sugar in milk. I'm absolutely fine with all other dairy products - drink milk and eat yogurt every day pretty much.

or casein?

Hey zip (sorry couldn't be arsed typing the rest out)

Cheese is my favourite food but I have IBS and shouldn't really eat too much of it. the only type that seems to bother me is mozzarella - my father-in-law makes his own pizzas and I have to have mine with cheddar. Last time I had mozzarella I threw up and (sorry to be so graphic) the cheese hadn't digested at all!

Thanks I'll have a look into that one alfiebrady, don't know anything about it.

Helliebobs - Thanks, the bit of toast I was eating whilst reading your answer wasn't so tempting afterwards! :-)

Luckily cheese wasn't high on my list of favourite foods, but there is loads of stuff I miss though - pizza, lasagne, lots of pasta dishes, quiche, cheesecake etc
