Whilst recently cleaning out my mums loft, I came across some recipe books from the 70's.

One which particularly caught my eye was a superbly illustrated example by Fanny Craddock (apparently she was very popular back then?). Each individual recipe is accompanied by close-up colour photo's.

My problem is this: whilst trying to copy one recipe in particular, I'm having presentation problems; No matter what I do to my doughnuts, with either a faint crease down the middle, or a hole right through the centre, they still don't look like Fannies.

Any tips?

I'm lucky enough to have seen Fanny Craddock's original TV program that concluded with her husband exclaiming, "...and if you follow the recipe, your doughnuts will look just like Fanny's". The nation collapsed in laughter.
