Hi olivia, Somehow I got de-registered from AB for a while but I'M BACK now! I'll trawl through and find your posting on the Gazetteer Quiz.

How are you doing with the latest Matlock Quiz?

Question Author
Hi Crofter, I've come to a full stop with the Matlock Quiz, in particular in finding the Hotels, only have three of them, haven't got any of the answers between 1 and 16 although I have been concentrating on the second page. Because its not due until March I have not spent too much time on it. Its the Gazetteer that causing the problems and it has to be in this month

Regarding those Hotels (there should be 7) I am not doing much better. I don't want to get on to this Quiz too early, but do you have an answer to Q33 - the first hotel (in the Cambridge Area)?

I thought that I had cracked it as the "Livelong Hotel" - but that name doesn't seem to exist! Next, I tried a "Novotel" - but again no luck!

Can you put me out of my misery?

Question Author
yes it is the livelong hotel, I must have found it somewhere. Since you mentioned this quiz yesterday I've had another go at it, but still no more hotels, at the moment I'm trying to find another name for a Madagascan wood snake
Ah yes - you must mean the LANGAHA !
Question Author
I think that translates to Langar clue 15 on the Matlock quiz, I,m just working on an Hotel near Eton, clue 53

olivia If you post your commnts about the Matlock Quiz here, I can pick them up!

Your "rest" is as in snooker. Look up bridges in Cambridge!

I only need 6-8 Answers to complete!

Question Author

Crofter No.8 for the tax think of the fee paid on the new M6 link, No. 6 is straight forward for the first part the second part is HALL. for No 7 I have Gamston but I'm not too sure (it includes MAT for something a mouse might move on) hope this helps

tax = poll

yes to "Hall"

yes to "Mat"

no to "Gamston" (think bigger)

I'm away until monday!

Question Author
I misunderstood your comments yesterday when you said you needed 6-8 answers to complete, I thought they were the numbers of the answers required, what numbers do you need?
olivia I don't have my Matlock Quiz to hand, so I can't tell you today which I need. However, I now have the answer to Q33 - which is NOT the LIVELONG Hotel, but is an anagram thereof.
Question Author
You have realy stumped me with the TELL LOVING HOE anagram Crofter, just one clue please, is the word hotel included?
Question Author
By the way crofter I need 4 on page one and 19 (yes 19) on page 2 of the Matlock quiz, so I have some work to do.

Yes, it's a one-word anagram of LIVELONG followed by HOTEL. Think French for "town". I now have a complete first page - but gaps on my second page.

I have ideas about some of those missing, but having more trouble with Q77, Q83, Q84, Q92, Q93 and Q94.

Question Author

Re 77 for the first part, I thought of an army regiment, the nickname for them.

83. has been given some time ago, a very difficult anagram, the first word is a cigar smoking prime minister

93. I thought you gave me this one some time ago

I need 4, 5, (does yam come into it?.) 12 and 47 on the first page

re 65 cant think of a polish that ends in either ALL, OLT or WOOD or am I on the wrong track

I have an answer for 68 but there is an S in the middle which makes the sceptre plural !!!!

for some reason I have entered British Museum Bloomsbury against 90, but I dont know why.

I have got page 2 down to 14

thanks for help, I will go back to LIVELONG,

Just a quickie, does 61 end in Hotel or Hostel?

Bye for now

61 Neither - An Ostler looks after horses!

Briefly, Q5 does not use YAM (but TARO)

Q65 Mr Sheen?

Q68 I have the same answer as you!

Question Author
I had ostler, but in some dictionaries it is spelt Hostler which includes hotel or hostel, but obviously I was wrong in my assumption
Question Author
I dont suppose the ostler question could be Elstree?

Not Elstree (where's your letter O?). Look half way between your answers for 60 and 62!

Have you solved Q84 Valuable support?

Is it a bridge?
