There is a debate on the seven MPs who maligned the House of Commons Privileges Committee investigation into Boris lying in parliament – calling it a kangaroo court/witch-hunt etc.

Apparently the Lib-Dems have tabled a motion for all seven to be investigated for contempt – and if found guilty, an appropriate punishment applied.

Let’s hope there is a vote on the motion that succeeds.
The fun is scheduled to start at 3:30pm (or soon after)

Thanks, Hymie.
Contempt? But we were assured it wasn’t a court of law. If that committee has rendered itself beyond criticism MPs have every reason to be afraid - and so have the rest of us. That’s a very slippery slope indeed.
I'll be watching the tennis.

Imagine you belong to a club (let’s say your local tennis club), and one of the members who is a friend of yours, has been accused of being very obnoxious to other members.

As a result, your friend is being investigated by the club’s management re his actions, in line with the club’s rules. If found to have broken the club rules, your friend could be barred from the club.

Now imagine, in support of your friend you call the committee’s investigation a witch-hunt and a kangaroo court – what (if any) action do you think the tennis club might apply to you?
This isn’t a tennis club. These are democratically elected representatives of the people and they value free speech. You should think about valuing it too.
Oh, the honest fplk who weren't scared to call things as they were, you mean. Yeah, I can imagine those upset would continue their attack.
Are MPs not allowed an opinion? Time this farce was ended.
You can always rely on the Lib Dems to bring back morality and ethics into Parliament. [cough cough]
If you view an event such as that as "something to look forward to" I can understand why the highlight of most of your days seems to be finding a clip on YouTube of some bloke slagging off Brexit. It also reinforces my decision to no longer get involved in the questions you raise on here when you've made those discoveries.

Like ladybirder, I too will be watching the tennis.
The usual intolerant liberal left wanting to shut down anyone who disagrees with them.

As said above, a very slippery slope to go down.

NJ – I’m always interested when people in power get their comeuppance, especially when they are politicians.

To all of you who think nothing wrong with these MPs calling the Privileges Committee investigation a kangaroo court/witch-hunt – the next time your employer investigates a fellow employee for potential wronging; announce loudly that the whole thing is kangaroo court/witch-hunt and see what happens.
Hymie, when a panel made up of the accused’s enemies - some of whom had declared him guilty before the ‘trial’ began - is selected to investigate him, it is a kangaroo court…. but that isn’t the issue here. The fact is this committee should not be beyond criticism, if necessary it should be held to account, and MPs should be free to speak out. No one, not even you, should rejoice in attempts to silence them.
One can be critical without being contemptuous although I'll grant you that sometimes it's very difficult to stay the right side of the line.
//To all of you who think nothing wrong with these MPs calling the Privileges Committee investigation a kangaroo court/witch-hunt –//

I think it has been quite widely shown that much of the "evidence" on which this committee relied to come to its conclusions was, let's be kind and say "flawed". Little of it would have stood scrutiny in a court of law and much of it was plainly misleading.

If a powerful committee reaches its conclusions based on such material it is likely to be criticised.
One should only announce loudly that the whole thing is kangaroo court/witch-hunt when it patently obviously is. What is strange is the members of the kangaroo court getting upset and denying it, and others actually defending them. It was clearly going to be a stitch-up from the off, no point in beating about the bush.
Ah, I think I've identified the problem.

Looking at the parliament website, this motion was carried by 353 votes to 7.

Hopefully this means there will be a full investigation of the seven MPs who maligned the House of Commons Privileges Committee investigation (calling it a kangaroo court/witch-hunt etc).
good job theres not much else going on with the economy, world affairs etc to get in the way of this
You forgot to namecheck THE PANDEMIC.
