She wants to go back to work? Look this '1 year off' is a fairly new innovation; it used to be something like 4 months when I was working.
J R Ewing probably said it best.
They need the money; they want to develop their career; they want to return to work.
It means you need to mind your own business
Bloody good for her.

I know this will upset the wimminhood, and it’s taboo to say so, but taking a year off is an absolute pain in the backside.

The industry I’m in is such that you can’t simply get a temp, so when somebody goes on mat leave for a year all that happens is that their work has to get reallocated to other people.

I was the subject of a grievance a few years ago because I had a lady that had two kids in quick succession and had two years off, and while she was off I promoted one of her colleagues. Her grievance against me was because I didn’t offer her an interview for the promotion. Fortunately HR backed me up and the grievance went away.

I’m of the (completely illegal) view now that I will not interview women who are in their late twenties to late thirties who are childless.
Deskdiary, then you are potentially missing out on hiring a fantastic female employee who has no intention of having a family. I would be interested to know what your profession is that you can’t get temps or contract workers.
I entirely agree KristalBee, but have been bitten too many times, and I think it’s fundamentally unfair that other people should have to pick up the work of others.
Yes I also agree with you on that point. No business should support someone who decides to have a child.
So you wouldn't employ a man who potentially wants to be a father, Kristal?
When our children came along we made the conscious decision that I would carry on working, because I was earning more, and my wife would give up her job and raise the children rather than palming them off to strangers.

Overnight this reduced the household income by about 40% because my wife had a good job, but in the long run we felt it paid dividends.

It’s a first world problem, but we had to move, we didn’t have holidays for years, and baked beans became a staple - but looking back now we’re pleased we did it. It was incredibly tough for a number a number of years.
Who knows ? Maybe she's employed a nursemaid. Maybe her partner is running the home. Maybe she has got government to pay for help while she opts to earn more ? Maybe she lost it. Maybe it is being looked after by an extended family.

Probably best you ask her and see what her reaction is.
Equality eh? :o)
Are you male or female? (If I am allowed to use these words)…. In your other repeated questions you mention marrying a woman. Just wondered.
Smurf, women can marry women, so can men, gender neutral, gender fluid, transwomen, transmen, and people who identify as 'other'.
I know Barry, I just wondered. Doesn’t matter to me.
