For 3, try putting a "F" in front of each word.
2 thames.... only runs through one country, others cross border's
1 Wild guess. Take 'akes' off each word.

L (left)
M (Middle)
R (Right)

in that order. So W (West) would be the odd one out.
1 iffy lakes ...put up after others ?
I think Lakes as well..
Other 3 can be nouns or verbs. Lakes is just a noun.
Or MAKES- all the others have anagrams from there letters= kales, reaks, askew
^Meant asker not reaks!
I put lakes because it wasn't a verb.
I think thats the best explenation Tilly... I was just adding to the list a reasons why really
It's a very trying quiz, Bobb. :-)
Am not keen on these as theres often several possible answers and its not always ovious what the expected answer is.
for example while Lakes looks best to us for 1 maybe the setter is thinkig Makes a s you can a letter before all the others to make another word- like flakes, brakes, awakes
