The only word I can find to fit your letters is this:

EDDIC Etymology: Old Norse Edda, a 13th century collection of mythological, heroic, and aphoristic poetry: of, relating to, or resembling the Old Norse Edda

As you see, it fits the mythological part, but I cannot yet tie the answer in with juniper.

It's a partial anagram of deciduous, but I can't see how that fits either.

Thank guys.

The word seems to be EDDIC but the link is a bit tenuous. There is a book of poems called the Elder Edda, and the elder plant is often linked with the juniper, but it is a bit vague.

Eddic is correct. Drape juniper together with Eddic form an anagram whose novel solution is thematic with the rest of the crossword.

Thanks, Croquetbuff. Simple when you see it.

No problem. Took me a long time too; found this site while googling in the hope of finding out why it could be eddic, ... then realised under my own steam!
