Scots word meaning to strike …. Or to bestow a knighthood ??nt

Strike is dunt but never heard it used in connection to a knighthood.

Don't think dynt is a Scottish word, whereas you can get a dunt on the head or dunt your car. Use this word all the time.

In the Dictionaries of the Scots Language, the entry for, "dunt" makes no mention of bestowing a knighthood.

Nothing under, "dynt" about knighting folk.

You'll know far, far better than me, maggiebee, but my link for dynt/dint does come from a Dictionary of the Scottish Language, but then again I'm English. ;0)))

I wouldn't use this word for hit or strike. To me a dub is a puddle.
Have heard of dubbing a knight though.

^^^ You want the Scots word, four letters, possibly ending in "nt", that means the same as English "dub" (strike, bestow knighthood) ... not the Scots word "dub", three letters, that means "puddle" ...
