Thanks NAC.
Simple clues but finding them difficult.

3. must refer to black panther. That word would be used very carefully here.
If I can figure out what letters go where across and down answers start with the same letters (Row 1, Row 7), I'd make progress.
1. Cut

Sorry Tilly2. Forgot to say 1 and 2 are 5 letters long.
Tilly, you won't know - all Across clues have 5-letter answers.
Hankir, I'll look at my grid when I get home - and hope to give you a hint for placing things.

Hankir, I'd have used dashes or asterisks if I'd realised the answer to 3 A would need it!

Hankir,if you fit in the one 7-letter answer, that should be a big help.

Thanks Nac, but I'm struggling on
Flemish miscreant in good form (7)
Hankir, I'm out again so am just popping in! That one is an anagram (miscreant is the indicator). The word is very ordinary, that definition wasn't. It's in Chambers.

Hi NAC,
I now have Flemish answer.
I need any one answer that I can insert on right half. So far it's blank.
Hankir, have you spotted that there are more cells available than the answers fit? That's crucial. The two N words intersect just past the black cell on the top row.
Question Author
Thanks NAC.
I have filled in most answers.
Remaining clues to solve:
Meadow cut... (B????)
End of lead... (N????)
Rank year..... (?hine)

I have the middle column. A game I play everyday.
4 unclueds are going to be hard with little to no crossers. One of them can be F???U.
Question Author
Got all 3 answers.
End of lead was tricky. Finally figured out what dog's tummy was.

Only the 4 unclueds remain.
I think those were Bayle, Noose and Rooty. I don't have the puzzle with me.
Sorry, Hankir - my typing took too long!
