I am lying chilled out and relaxing in front of TV at 11.30pm tonight - Maxie had just gone up to his bed in the bedroom. Something happened at the door, he comes barking down pretty agitated - all I could hear from the living room was all this noise - I jumps into the hall - pretty frightened and it was a person shoving a Xmas card into the letterbox but got away in the car before I realised it all.

I am still pretty shook up. Would you be.

It’s a bit late for posting cards .
Could be Royal Mail working late.
I'd be quite surprised to get a Xmas card from anyone, but not by the means of delivery. When you opened the card, did you not recognise who the sender is?
Question Author
Of course I know who the sender and I am mad - jeepers can they not use a bloody postage stamp.
As anne say's, sounds a bit late to me. Would have made me jump I think.
Question Author
I'm sorta feeling a little tearful about it.
Awe, don’t jj. Get Maxie and yourself settled for the night .
I think I'd have been a bit startled but less so with a barking dog in the house - where I am I hear people coming and going all the time so perhaps I'm more used to it.
Question Author
then because he was barking so vehemently I felt like taking it out on him but he was only protecting his territory, so I'm keeping it all in. Ef the lot of them.
Ah Jenny only you could turn the simple act of someone giving you a christmas card into a reason to hate them. They probably saw your lights were still on. I expect I would have been startled too but what a great little guard dog you have there
Somebody loves you.
Bloody unreasonable behaviour IMHO, not surprised you were scared at that time of night.

Good grief, you can be a right unmitigated pudding at times, bednobs. I wouldn't appreciate someone shoving something through my letterbox at that time of night, especially if I was a person with a nervous disposition.
Give the dog extra treats for defending you, next time you see the person thank them for the card and think. Someone thought enough of you to deliver a card by hand. lots of people are still wide awake and doing stuff until very late. make a joke about it , say you thought they were burglars if you like. It's obvious on here that you are an anxious type, maybe they forgot that. It's nothing forget it
No - I wouldn't be shook up but I live with 4 men (family, not random men)
i was surprised when the balcony gate went at 8 last night, as no one i know can get in without my pressing the intercom. It was just a neighbour remailing a card put in their door by mistake
i would be quite surprised too i must admit
It probably would have made me momentarily concerned yes but not once I realised it was a card and from someone I know. I tend to come down on the side of bednobs, several times I've thought OMG I've not sent so and so a card and it's too late to get it delivered by post, popping through the door would be a good solution. I expect whoever it was found themselves in the same situation.
I suppose if they hadn't gone out of their way to make sure you got the card you'd be fretting about now they might be lying hurt or dead at home and what to do for the best.

Calm doon woman, it's only a card.

Calm doon woman, it's only a card.

well I have calmed down after a sleep, it wasn't the act of pushing a card through a letterbox - I wouldn't have heard this, but I heard Maxie running mad around the bedroom with paws heavily on the wooden floor and then came barking down like a wind, I did think I was getting broken into and another thought - thought Maxie was having a fit - so that upset me too.

Oh yes I do have a nervous disposition, but I will tell you one thing - I suppress emotions unbelievably so.
