Another couple stranded abroad because they travelled to the US whilst she was pregnant and the baby came 3 months early. I understand this is a very difficult situation for them but they have made it a thousand times worse by travelling without insurance. As the insurance would have cost them £4k why did they insist on the holiday at that time?

But why bother when they can simply set up a begging page so total strangers can foot the bill. I makes me spit - why can't they take responsibility for themselves?

I've seen GoFundMe pages for funeral expenses, medical bills, holidays, cosmetic surgery, No pride and no dignity

I agree. Many people skip the most important part of getting insurance and expect Joe Public to help them out!!
I agree with you HC, when we scratch around to pay our insurance, although by posting this link, you are giving the cause all the more publicity!

In the meantime I do wish the baby well after such a dramatic and high risk start to life.

Yes, I hope the baby is soon fit and well enough to come home. Will she be American? Have a dual passport?
And I agree also, I'd like to bet 2/3rds of younger people who party in Ibiza etc, don't have insurance
I think dual nationality if born there. My friend was born in Oz to UK parents when they lived there for a time, and she has both UK and AUS passports.

I'd like to bet that a lot of seniors don't have insurance either - they take a gamble because it can be very expensive for the elderly with health problems but the sun is so beneficial.

Thanks, Maydup. Might turn out to be a blessing for the little one :)
Hc,my grandson was born 14 weeks early, it's a long process as their lungs haven't developed so it was oxygen for a year likewise their immune system, Mum was advised not to mix with other children or let anyone kiss him for nearly a full year
Question Author
It's amazing they survive when they are born so tiny.
We have travel insurance for a year in Europe for two with Saga. £225. Not expensive.
Hc my grandson was 1-10 thankfully he's now a strapping 6'0 sturdy 15 yr old,we will always be eternally grateful to our wonderful NHS

I think I'm all begged out. I've been watching afternoon tv (not my choice) and I've been bombarded by adverts wanting me to sponsor a child, save working donkeys, save a child's eyesight, provide drinking water and save a child, save abused animals in the UK, save caged wild animals across the globe, sponsor a guide dog, say balls to cancer, stop FGM AND think of my loved ones and make a will being sure to leave something to the RSPCA.

All one one channel in one afternoon. It's enough to depress anyone.
Question Author
That's good to know, Bobbi.

david, my aged parents can't get travel insurance under £3k because of their health problems.
Well I wouldn't fund people like that. Sometimes getting insurance is cheaper then not.
having had 3 children that have received care in NICU (one of whom was in for seven weeks) i dread to think what the nhs has paid. I would never have been Able to afford to pay, thank goodness i didnt have to
When I was pregnant if nothing had gone wrong it was estimated that a normal straightforward delivery, immediate post natal and anti natal care there would have cost us $50,000- $100,000. People have no idea of how valuable and precious the NHS is, or they wouldn't be so complacent about it.

I hope their little one is alright x
Anyone who travels when pregnant without travel insurance is asking for trouble as is anyone who travels to the US, pregnant or not, without insurance.
Question Author
I'm not sure that I would be happy to let my 13 year old sleep in a hotel room alone.
Have you answered the wrong thread, hc?
