Crisis subsided though I don't suppose you are interested. So may I make my usual plea for explanations please? I have possible answers for them all. There are three.
"Chap failing to work on field" Dodger fits and the failing to work is OK but why "field"?
"Smooth superhero, I reduced are for energy barrier" Event monitor fits. I see even for smooth but the rest leaves me more than a bit baffled.
"Old papers are of benefit with school subject , including piano. Papyri are old papers and the p(iano) works but the rest?

Thanks for the help which I know will come.

Thank you very much indeed! In one way, I am pleased to know that two of my answers were wrong. Your explanations show that I was not being flexible enough in my thinking. And actually I didn't know the term "event horizon" . Oddly I have read quite a lot about black holes and the term comes up there in the Wikipedia notes (which I have just looked up) but I don't remember seeing it before. As I have said before, doing crosswords helps me learn as well as play.

v=vide (Latin for see)
Question Author
I think that last explanation must be for somebody else. I knew that v can mean see because of the Latin.
Are you back in mum's good books then Steven? ;)))

I have just looked back and see that it was cashier that asked for that.
Glad to see that you have joined us Mamyalynne. Always a great help to me!

Thanks very much, that was myexplanation for Tongan (all I could come up with) but don't think much of it as a clue.

Yes Captain2. Thanks to His Nibs who came round earlier. He was brilliant with her. He apologised for not taking greater care of me and promised he would do better in future. it was the message she wanted to hear. I don't think I did (he is, after all, a bit younger than I am) but it was absolutely the right thing to say today. And, of course, she is as fond of him as I am. So, yes I think all is well . Though she hasn't yet said anything about bedtimes. Maybe she'll still turn that screw a bit tighter.
Thanks for asking

Good day all round then - good to hear.
Question Author
Well, not quite all round, captain. She stuck by her decision on my bedtime. Back to 9 for my bath. I tried a plea but I quickly realised that I was on a loser. She is a tough cookie, my mother.

Just been chatting to His Nibs. He was pleased with his chat to SWMBO. I told him that so am I. I said that she has decided on my early bedtime. He said I should just go with it and that if I behave it will soon be over. He is so mature for his age. I always get goose bumps when I see him.
