Crikey I feel old writing that.

I'm sticking this in CB because it is going to straddle two sections.

I'm having a small reunion party on Sat night for a group of friends who used to knock about together from around 1987 - 1991.

Question 1: We are going to compile a play list of songs we used to listen to. Unfortunately "we" means "me". Now I could google it, but I thought a quick fix was to ask you guys what YOU were listening to then. I'll kick off with the song that means the most to me and the OH.

Question 2: What were you eating 30 years ago at dinner parties? I was going to do a selection of homemade pates and breads, something with chicken and a minted green fruit salad. But that doesnt really feel "retro".

Help please? TIA xx

Remember doing pineapple chunks, cheese and tiny pickled onion on a stick - then sticking the sticks (somewhere) - looked like a wee hedgehog.
Fondue...

My aunt used to do it with oil, not cheese, and we'd have a selection of meats to cook our self. Serve with garlic bread, baked spuds and salads.

Ah, yes JJ. A potato wrapped in foil. Lol.

Might do that as canapes.
Oh JJ, there you are :-). Sorry barmaid for intrusion .
this isn't retro but they go down well. Big ripe strawberries dipped into melted chocolate - then they harden. So gorgeous.

Aha, now there's an idea Ummm. I do have a fondue set rusting quietly to itself in a cupboard somewhere.
I used to love them.
The never quite redundant prawn cocktail, melon balls, garlic bread, any meat cooked in a sauce, cheese boards.
''China In Your Hand'' also has sweet memories for me but not until the late noughties :-p

''homemade pates and breads, something with chicken and a minted green fruit salad''

Very sophisticated. 30 years ago any gatherings I was invited to usually included alcohol, recreational drugs and mountainous quantities of 24 hour garage food.

Ahhh, Anne. Now I remember going out for a meal with the OH back then (I thought I was SO grown up) and I remember I had prawn cocktail and it was huge! And I have some ripe melons in the conservatory......
rick astley never gonna give you up. 1987.

pmsl, brilliant. Actually thinking about it, most of our gatherings were just that. Sorted ;)
Trouble is, now you'll all be asleep by 11pm, apart from the one guest hugging the toilet upstairs.

Music-wise, grab yourself a copy of late 90's Now That's What I Call music CD (you prob. already have it in a box in your loft).

Excellent Emmie, that's on the list now.

Plus:- Nellie the Elephant (yes really) - the Toy Dolls
Little Lies - Fleetwood Mac
Moonlight Shadow - Mike Oldfield
Here I go again on my own - Whitesnake
I've had the time of my life - from Dirty Dancing
Space Oddity - Bowie
Come on Eileen - DMR

I know at least one person who will be snoring on the sofa by 11.

And I have money on who will be puking up in the flower beds and falling in the pond.

the CD player is bust, so I am having to compile a play list from my napster account.
Question Author
Thanks, Emmie. Now on the list.

Funnily enough I have just named one of my goldfish MJ. He used to be mainly black and now he's mainly white. (Sorry, bit non PC).
Get the DVD's of
1) Sink the Bismarck
2) The Dambusters.
3) 633 Squadron.
4) Battle of the River Plate

Then phone up the local Indian takeaway, phone a taxi to pick up and deliver the takeaway.....SORTED.
am not too keen on the fondue thingy.
Is cheese as good as it once was 30 years ago?

Will have to have a look at the music side of it, but am sure Chris De Blurgh 'Lady in Red' is from about that time.
Handy for when the time comes to chuck out the guests.
