Can someone suggest an area that would be nice to live in around the South-East? For example Essex or Kent. I don't mean just Essex or Kent, but small towns etc, within these places. Any ideas? Before there are any Essex jokes, there are really lovely places to live there like Navestock, Great Baddow etc. Thank for any help.

I'm just over the Essex border (in Suffolk) and I know Essex well so I could start listing loads of places which you might like but it would help to know what's important to you! Good transport links? Proximity to the coast? Major shopping centres nearby?

As a starting point, I would suggest Coggeshall, which is a very pleasant little town, and Burnham-on-Crouch, which is one of the few really pleasant coastal areas of Essex.

You provide more information and I'll come up with more suggestions.

Chris
I live in Essex, so i'll be watching fot the anwers that have already been asked for.

Kent: Tenterden/Whitstable

E. Sussex: Rye/Winchelsea/Bexhill/Uckfield/Nutley/Pevensey

...and Lewes - lovely town.
I live in Essex and it is easier to mention the bad places. Basildon,Harlow,Southend,Colchester,Tilbury,Canvey,Grays,Thurrock.Probably a few more as well.

depends where you want to get to.  i live in west sussex right by the sea and moved down from Kent/esuss border because property was much cheaper here.

Villages that are nice: middleton-on-sea; climping, slindon, findon.

kent/East suss: Hurst Green, hawkhurst, ticehurst, wadhurst, sandhurst, cranbrook; bodium, Ninevah,

All the south east is lovely really, I love it here.  The nearer the seashore the better.  I'm trying to convinc Mr Mimififi to move again to a beach house...Gorgeous.

...ah, Climping. What a lovely spot. Nearest town Arundel? Very nice.
Brentwood / Shenfield area is nice. Avoid Romford, Degenham, Purfleet, and most of the places mentioned by Artemis - although personally I like Colchester!

nearest town is indeed Arundel: beautiful cathedral, castle (fully furnished), lovely town, but property mega bucks.

Climping beach: marvellous, elmer sands:lovely ( cheap property) Rural, yet urban, the best of both worlds. 5 mins into littlehampton town, yet still lots of tractors and sheep slowing down the traffic.

Its a bit further up but Beccles is a lovely place to live. I lived there for 8 years just round the corner from the quey.
