In simple terms. I bought a hdm cable with micro usb to watch tv from tablet to big screen. Well Ive tried it on 3 tvs with no uck, says no signal. Having inspected the cable it says it is also MHL, and my tablet does not support it. So if I get a normal hdml cable (are there such things) would that work? Does anyone know what I am going on about?

The Galaxy A3 doesn't have the ability to connect via HDMI.

Seriously? Is there any other way?
Chromecast, or depending on your telly, just Cast, or (possibly) Samsung SmartHub

I mean of course hdmi
samsung galaxy a3 to tv hdmi
That link is for an S3.
No, that link won't help, Ron

Have you got a smart tv, neti?
Just to be clear. The A3 does not have MHL. There is no video available at the USB port. You can sprinkle it with fairy dust and wish upon a star, but there is no lead available that will magically change the design so that you can get video out of a port that doesn't have video!

smart tv dont know. we have one in the front room but dont want it for that one. The others are all HMDI
Your best and cheapest option is probably Chromecast. It's 30 quid and plugs into the HDMI socket of the telly. With that you can both mirror the screen of your tablet on the telly, and send videos direct from your WiFi, using tablet as a controller.
