Thanks Any point sending the answers - does anyone ever win?

I never bother sending it in.  I didn't fancy one of their pens for all those years and haven't changed my habits since they change the prize.  I did however win the griddler (Sunday Telegraph) about 5 years ago.

I am sorry, vishakhc, but I cannot see how you would have the nerve to send this crossword off and try to win a prize when you have been given SIX of the clues.

This crossword can be worked out without the help of others and it would be a travesty were someone to win when they have not completed the crossword themselves and someone who does work out the clues themselves consequently fails to win. Either earn your chance of a prize or have the courtesy not to send the crossword off.

biley - do you mean "....where someone to win...."?
Sorry Mrs mRSgrandy

Oops, don't know what happened there - sorry.

Not sure what you mean Mrs Grandy - "it would be a travesty were someone to win....." is what I meant to say - I think my English is ok this time.

biley - you were right first time!  Please ignore me.
To Biley. Why are you on this site?. If we all had your selfish attitude know one would get any help when they are struggling to complete a crossword. Perhaps vishakhc has just started doing cryptics. We all need help from time to time no matter how experienced you are.The whole point of site is to help each other. Why don't you keep your selfish opinions to yourself and go on another site.

Thanks fergol -- I thought this site was only meant for people who can help others. Biley is full of bile !!

Hey, hey, steady on folks, this is more like X-wars than X-words !! It's supposed to be a fun, informative and helpful site -how else do you learn except by asking, huh?

However, I reckon that most of GK Xword submitters find 99% of the amswers on google or yahoo........!!

good Luck  Vishakhc.  I'm pleased you asked for clues

it helps others and agree this site is very good am always grateful for answers with cryptics have only just tried them and only way to get answers it does spoil it a bit when you get comments I wonder who can do a crossword without any reference or help  lets keep up the good work and spirit to help each other. There seems to be someone who at end of answers suggest we google am sure we all do but its good to have a friendly site with fellow puzzlers .

pega, thanks for comments ! After all, googling is no different from using reference tomes (which I do, frequently) - it's not always quicker via google anyway. Good luck with cryptics - google is no help there - just think laterally....
Good morning fellow puzzlers. I hope vishakhc hasn't been put off using this site by the unnecessary comments by biley. On the subject of help, I use a site called ONE ACROSS for gk's, cryptics and anagrams. Sometimes it gives quite bizarre answers but in the main, is very useful.

What a load of bile has been spouted here - and not from me! If you could have a look atmy record you would see I am only too happy to give answers to both general knowledge and cryptic crosswords but none of those people who have criticised me for an opinion - because thats all it is - have answered the question at the heart of my comments - is it right that someone who has been given a LARGE number of answers wins a prize over someone who has completed the crossword themselves?

The other point is - and I reiterate this - it is fine if you are starting learning to be given answers for a cryptic crossword as you want to learn how the compiler thinks but you do NOT then send the crossword off - that is gaining from deception - you have not completed the crossword yourself and do not deserve to win. It is just like working for half a day and expecting to be paid for a full day - just not on - and not fair to others.

If you look at the clues vishakhc has asked for they can all be worked out - he or she COULD work them out with patience.

One final word for now - I have already helped this person with another question - if he or she does not recognise that and leaves the site because of a little criticism when it is warranted I will be amazed.
