Thanks, Kosoro, but backwater is one word I think. This is two separate words. Unless there is a term to back water.

My dictionary gives it as 2 words ... Water held or pushed back
It can be a one word or two words according to some rowing glossary websites - most seem to opt for two words.
example
Back Water: reverse position of blade so you are making the boat move in the opposite direction.

 it was  BACK   and this is one of the link solutions
