Can someone explain (in layman terms please!) exactly what a Quizmail is? and why some folks appear to be tetchy about any answers given?

Yours....

I have just done a search and found a website www.quizmail.co.uk
It's a postal quiz Boo.and Lindabon.I used to do it years ago but don't bother with it now. It's run by Dave and Vic Steadman in Hitchin in Herts and they send it out once a month.150 questions ,some of which are very difficult to find the answers to. It costs around 15 to enter and it's run like a league. They do have an awful lot of entrants. The thing is people post the questions on AB but they only like to be given clues not direct answers. If you happen to stumble across one of these questions and answer it the others who participate don't like it.The thing is some don't put that it's a quizmail question and then you answer unwittingly and then the sparks fly.Take my advice and avoid anything that says quizmail even if you do know the answer. It's a no win situation and load of old kerfuffle over what should be a bit of harmless fun.
As far as I am concerned, a question here is a question here. If I know the answer, I'll provide it, on the basis that the questioner and I are using this site for the purpose for which it was intended. If my response annoys anyone else, so be it. Presumably the quiz-setters and other entrants are perfectly well aware that the WWW exists and that people will take advantage of it.
Thanks for that info - I've been wondering, too!  And I concur with QM - the purpose of this site is to provide answers, so if you don't actually WANT the answer what's the point of posting a query?
This whole subject is being discussed in the following link, if truly interested then please click.

Although please do read all the posts before adding anything so the same thing doesn't get added again and again. Ta muchly!

Thanks to Shaneystar. I had found the website for it but your information is very helpful.

I for one will not be answering any questions that have quizmail in them.If the person who posted questions specifically asked for clues then those of us who didn't realise would not have wanted to spoil it for them intentionally.
