If you are in Brum you need to get the train from Moor St station or Snow Hill station. Some of the trains from there go to London via Solihull and Warwick but you need the other "leg" that goes off to Stratford Upon Avon.

Just make sure you get on the right train.

Every city now has a tourist web site, here is the one for Stratford upon Avon

They have recently done a major refurbishment of the RSC theatre and built a tower that gives a great view over the city.

The area in front of the theatre is pleasant with grass and canal bots and the river Avon.

You can also visit Shakespeare's birthplace (house).

There a nice walk along the river to the church where Shakespeare is buried, then walk on a little further, over the bridge, and then walk back into Stratford through the park on the opposite side of the theatre. This is only a short walk, more of a stroll really.

A butterfly farm on the opposite side of the river from the theatre.

Lots of nice old buildings to see, many shops, and places to get a drink or a bite eat.

While pleasant the whole place is rather touristy (but I still like it).
There are rather a lot of smart boutique-type shops there, selling some very chic clothes.
If you're there for a week I'd make Warwick Castle a 'must see'. Be early though, in order to get everything in.

just to say we had a lovely day in s.u.a. the weather helped, glorious day. took the train, arrived at the main train station to an ugly new development of fancy redrow flats, what an eyesore, so much for protecting this beautiful town. had a walk around the streets, couldnt enter many places due to big queues. enjoyed the a walk along the river, drank in a couple of old pubs. plus enjoyed wandering around the streets without any plans.
