Hooray!

Barber

Rise above it!

Don't let petty minded people put you off using Answer Bank.

Some of us would be happy to help if we knew the answers.

I agree they dont have to answer if they dont want and they dont have to read the answer if they dont want to.

You ask what you want, when you want

Children! Children! Thought I left this behind for the summer. Barber, you did ask a lot of questions. Did you get a late start? Postalquiz was a bit harsh but I see his point also. He had another good point. How have you looked? For 124, I think I only came up with one answer. Now I'll start worrying. I googled all the facts, Avenger 2-litre 4-cylinder etc and looked at a few sites and found my answer. Could be wrong of course. I'm not great with cars. 73, I just typed in a few of the terms in quotes. 75, think I put in personal info and born 1925 or something like that. Less is often better. I could tell you about my struggle with 121. I didn't do as I preached.
A sad state of affairs. Barber, you are welcome to help from me anytime.
Ignore the philippics.
I agree with d0gsb0dy. Sometimes I would like a little help but am almost scared to ask now.
Hear, hear, postalquiz. I've no time for people who can't even be bothered to learn how to use Google.

This really isn't a case of asking questions and getting answers. For those that don't do Quizmail, every month we get 150 questions and about 3 weeks to answer them in. Normally you get 5 - 10 'swine' questions which end up on here beng discussed. Key word there - discussed. As you'd expect, many of us are regulars on here and frequently post in these quizmail questions.  Others who don't do the quizmail but know the answer also join in. Great - What's the problem you ask.

The problem is when we have around 3 weeks to do the quiz, someone comes along after 5 days and asks for help on many questions - still got 2 weeks to go, give it a chance. Or when someone comes along and asks for help on 20 of the questions without EVER joining in on previous questions and helping wth answers. Is this fair - not really, Is this why after the 20th question being asked somebody (well it was me this time) pointed out it was all take take take with no give - YES!

I've defended (as my peers will testify) the use of this site to the hilt, when fights have broken out on here as to the ethics of doing a quizmail and asking for help, it therefore annoys me when people take advantage.

Barber,

If you are still participating in this discussion perhaps you will receive some sympathy and understanding if you explain where and with what resources you had researched these questions and had failed to find the answers.

If you only used internet sources then would you agree that  reference books and visits to your local library must become part of attempting the quiz. Serious research cannot be done just by sitting in front of a computer.

Why is it that some people are treating this so seriously? It isn't a legal requirement to have to answer questions. You can see who is asking. Why bother to get involved in the first place? If it's not to your liking, then ignore it. Simple. If someone wants to complete a puzzle the easy way, so what? Let the people who enjoy answering, do so. No need for invective.

Postalquiz and the rest of the smug 150 brigade don't want the use of answerbahk to dilute their regular winnings. To talk of serious research required for what is supposed to be a lighthearted quiz is over the top. I notice that some quizmaillers have formed their own discussion group to escape the vitriol of postalquiz and his ilk.

It is some months since I last entered into one of these discussions because as usual everyone thinks they are in the right but perhaps I could make a few points.

mldr79 I believe you have the right attitude NOBODY objects to quizzers asking questions from Quizmail or similar quizzes but surely if you are given 3 or 4 weeks to find the answers it should not be too much trouble to make the effort to find ALL the answers yourself then if you are stuck with just a few days to go before the deadline then post your question and I am sure most people will only be to happy to try to help you.

Liam Trader. Don't be nervous about asking for help but please make every effort to find the answer in the first few weeks of the quiz and I am sure you will be surprised and delighted at how well you can do. Then as I said if you are really stuck ask for help.

Denise S. You are of course joking when you say that people are worried about having their winnings diluted. If Quizmail still pays out the same sort of money as it used to when I entered we are only talking about 1 or 2 pounds.

I assume by the smug 150 brigade you are referring to people who get the answers correct I am sure that anyone who gets the quiz all correct has spent many hours searching for the answers and it galls them to see other contestants who haven't bothered putting in any research being given the answers only a few days after the quiz starts but I am 100% certain this has nothing to do with money.

Oarsman If the smug 150 brigade are not concerned about their reduction in prize money why do they think it necessary to police answerbank. If they don't like what some people do they can just ignore it and not post their abusive comments.

Is it just me or isn't somewhat hypocritical for someone that doesn't like "abusive comments" (even though only one thing was said so surely it's comment not comments) to call all the people that score 150 smug?

It doesn't matter to me, I'm in League E and have never scored more then 149.

Last month 73 teams got 150 points.  Assuming that there is an average of 3 members per team that means, according to your reasoning, that there are around 219 people walking around Britain with a smug expression on their faces because they got 150!  Get real - for 'smug' read sour grapes because you haven't got the dedication to research the quiz sufficiently to get 150 yourself. As has been stated many times before no one will get rich doing Quizmail - there is however a great sense of satisfaction in getting 150 not one of smugness.
