I have always said I don't do Facebook. But there was a £5 off coupon for Lidl that could only be printed via Facebook, so I had to do it. I had an email from FB saying I had five friends waiting, three of them I knew, the other two I have never heard of. Can someone enlighten me as to how two complete strangers "know" me. I haven't replied to it as I don't want to but a just intrigued.

Could be they are friends of friends?

I don't know how this thing works, why would friends of friends want me to like them?
Unknowns are friends of your friends who have recently posted them
thats how FB expands its populace

I know I'm an old dinosaur but it seems really odd to me, I certainly don't want unknown people trying to contact me.
I'm not on facebook but sometimes do Skype. I keep getting these annoying messages saying that people, unknown to me, want to be 'my friend'. I just delete the messages .
Me either, it's so wrong on so many levels. IMHO.
they cant contact unless you friend them - just ignore.

My OH does Skype because he is deaf and he finds it helps a lot, I don't use it. I find it very off putting to see someone on a screen when I am talking to them, also you can't tell little white lies as easy to get off the phone!

I have no intentions on taking FB any further, I only wanted my £5 off voucher.
They are friends of friends of friends. I get loads of" do you know" etc, and i look and i don't, because they are friends of my friends on facebook. One evening, half pickled on good old merlot, i said "yes, i know these people" Most replied they didn't know me and facebook suspeneded me for a week for saying I knew them when i didn't!. cant win.
ooo you baddie! lol
Maybe they are people who are looking for someone else who happens to have the same name as you? I sometimes get people asking to be 'friends' who I don't know or can't remember, I just send them a message asking how they know me. Genuine people give genuine answers. (One bloke was really weird, all of his 'friends' had the same first name that I use (which isn't my actual name) and is quite unusual, he seemed to be collecting people with the same name.)
just ignore them, caran - I only accept friends requests from people whose comments I actually WANT to see.

if you are not going to use FB any more then remove yourself as a user otherwise they'll keep sending you emails trying to get you back onto the site
