From Wikipedia:

"Miss Marple's St. Mary Mead is described in The Murder at the Vicarage as being in the fictional county of Downshire, but in the later novel The Body in the Library Downshire has become Radfordshire."

For seven letters I therefore suggest Radford
Ah, yes, I see.

It's supposed to be a TV prog - ignore me.

I'll get me coat
I think there was a detective called Nick Charles and I think it was probably in the Thin Man or something like that. I know I am burbling a bit, but it might give you a clue to work on, or google if you can.
Yes.. I just googled it for you and it is definitely Nick Charles in The Thin Man series. (bit old, but still there)
could it be about Agatha Christie, as she was born in Torquay which used to be known as a sleepy fishing village .??????
It would be nice to know if you have seen the answers Marjory and if they seem to be correct?
Question Author
Thank you but there is no TV prog or county known as Radford or Torquay, that I am aware of. The sentence Mr Charles ...., I arrest you.......... No number of letters are given. I was hoping the author of the quiz would help with the amount of letters. Very confusing as so many answers would fit here and some people reckon they have finished!!!!
Wexford sounds like the sort of place where Miss Marple may have lived (although I only knew of St Mary Mead) and is the name of a TV programme
I have put Wycliffe for that answer because I haven't got it anywhere else and HIS Christian name was Charles.
So have I KUSTARD, he was the only one I could find with the first name of Charles.
Goody goody Sadielady!!!! Have you given up on the 3 2 4 answer and decided the setter had spelled a 3 3 4 one wrong? I've given up now and posted my answers off but JUST GOT TO KNOW!
KUSTARD Gone with the 3 3 4 answer, got fed up with looking. Just realised I have two answers the same though - both in the story. The one Im not happy with is......It was (6 3 5) as she told me of the tragic deaths....
Hiya Sadie - that one is "Murder she wrote". Had me foxed till I read through it properly and realised she was writing a letter
Thank you....
