I love these facts ... but I'm ready for the maths guys to shoot me down.

A "googol" is a 1 followed by 100 0's.

The googol has no real practical application.

BUT ... !

If you have 70 people in a queue, there are MORE THAN a googol different ways in which you could line up those people.

AND YET ... !

When you look into the sky, there are FEWER THAN a googol ATOMS(!) in ALL the stars in the visible universe.

How fab is that ???

(I hope it's right)

Google was originally called BackRub.

I don't know how many ways there are of giving 70 people a backrub, though.
Question Author
Well, there are more than a googol ways that they could stand and queue up for a backrub!

Good decision to go with a different name!
70!
a googolplex is 1x10 to the power of googol

every time you breathe, you inhale a molecule of Julius Caesar's dying breath.
Oh crap, my eyes have gone funny!
Question Author
That's a lot, cazzz.

Now you're talking "MPs' overnight expenses" sort of numbers !!!
Question Author
In that case, jno ...

Presumably you inhale a molecule of EVERYBODY's dying breath ?
Question Author
Tiggy ... I'm not going to count the 0's.
Question Author
bibble ... why 70?
numbers of the order of a googol are a reason why financial institutions are quite interested in the development of quantum computers
! is the mathematical symbol for factorial and so:-

70! = 70x69x68x67x...x3x2x1 = a big number
Question Author
O que e um "quantum computer" ???
I think tiggerblue10's just been blinded by science!
Question Author
Thanks, bibble.

Or, in the spirit of this thread ... "bibbol"

Hello, EdCrone.

p.s. that 70! is the number of ways of forming a queue of 70 people
Question Author
Oh, fabbity.

I LOVE threads where you learn stuff.
Thannk you, jno, for your info on Julius C - I always wondered what the secret ingredient was in a Caesar dressing? Now I know, a miniscule dose of halitosis.

Nice.
