I was lucky, I had my wonderful Grandma around until my 40's. I wish I'd asked her more about her life, but I remember her telling me about going to see the silent movies and her favourite being Pearl White and the Clutching Hand which used to scare her half to death! She also told me she was a 'tomlad' and loved to climb trees and didn't like girly things. Do you remember things your Grandma told you?

Both my Grans (one was called Nana) lived until my 40's, but both Grandads died when I was a child, I still remember them though.
The trouble is the only grandparent I remember was my mother's Mum. I can't really remember things she said. I do have wonderful memories of her though.
no I don't sadly, I was the youngest of 5 and my Mums mum lived in Doncaster, I vaguely remember being taken there as a young child but that's all
I remember three of them, one died before I was born, just don't recall them telling me anything. My one gran could cook a mean chocolate sponge though, something she failed to pass on to my mother.
I remember my grandparents very well. One taught me how to bake biscuits and cakes. She was very proper Victorian. My other was so houseproud that you hardly dare sit on the sofa! Both lovely ladies in different ways. They could have taught the younger generation so much.
My fathers parents both died well before I was born and Mums dad was killed in a mining accident in 1937. The only thing I really remember of my mums mum was that she was a tiny women with very long black hair she died in '54 when I was six
Just realised you said Grandma, I was thinking Grandparents, sorry.

No need to apologise D97 ...
My Grandma taught me to play Canasta and to block her copy coupon as she was nearly blind. Her favourite saying was "When I win the pools". . . but she never did.
i remember my glaswegian granny with affection still. even though she popped her socks in 1976, she was a scream when we were kids in the 70´s. telling us all off in her glaswegian twang. we would roar with laughter. eg if i ever get a hold of you i´ll skelp your bot. one of her many classics

Loving all your answers, please keep them coming. My Grandma was Mum's Mum and Nana was Dad's Mum. I remember Nana telling me about 'Chocolate Bert' a boy she used to date before marrying Grandad who always had a ready supply of chocolate and was very popular!

vallaw - they were always going to win the pools weren't they?!
My nan virtually brought me up as my mum went out to work...........I was in my 40's when she died. I fondly remember her knocking back home brewed guinness and whisky chasers every night for the last 20 odd years of her life.
The little old Nan across the road from me was told by the specialist to have a glass of sherry every evening. So she does!
My mum's mum died a few years ago, but my dad's mum hasn't really changed much over the years - she's very fit and active despite being 84 and she's an absolute scream. She likes a drink and a smoke and is a force to be reckoned with when she's had a few and goes on the rant (very amusingly, usually). I imagine she'll be around for a good while yet - her mum was 99 when she died and her mum's mum was 106!
Both my grans died before I was born. I would love to have known them though.
I loved my Murton grandma, she was always busy in the background when all the family were there. She made apple pies because my dad once said they were his favourites, and he was stuck on what to say when he got fed up of them. I didn't know my paternal grandparents. I hope my granddaughter has happy memories of her visits to us when she gets older.
