Tell us what they are. We don't all have the magazine in front of us.
I reckon you are given the first letters of each solution. Looks like guesswork after that based on the crossing letters.
Do you have a link for this crossword please? I can only seem to get last month's puzzle??
Roslyn, I think the crossword comes on-line a day or 2 after the magazine comes out.
Thanks jimjools - i thought it was rather early for it to be online - I'll keep looking each day for the online version.

Scotman. Thats what I initially thought but unless I am wrong 13a should start with E but 13d is SACRA. Also is it significant that across clues are in alphabetical order
Question Author
Sorry if it's frustrating for those without copy but just got mag this morning for august
morrid

sacra looks good which does screw with the first letter theory. It does look good for lots of the other clues though. Not sure if alphabetical means anything yet.
Have you found any clues as to what we are looking for with the accross clues yet? I have most of the down clues done but I'm still a bit lost as to what we are looking for. ?????

Still none the wiser I'm afraid. Is 39d digamma and what is s african vulture?
thanx jimjools
Thanks JimJools - been busy on the speccie earlier, but I'll download it now and have a look!

There must be some kind of theme. If you look at 33a it is ?U? could be one of dozens of words and this is a prize crossword.
49a could be "wrong" ??
The vulture is aasvogel
No wrong is wrong! Doesn't fit with 38d. Back to the drawing board!
Roslyn I have wrong fitting with 38d - I also have Digamma for 39d Morrid.
Ah yes! I had genabum first for 38d - changed it now to Orleans.
You did the same as me Roslyn. :-))
It seems to be words that can be represented as a single letter like 41a V - Vatican City, but 9a doesn't follow this pattern!
