So our government has once again preferred to go 'foreign' than support our 'home' industries and workers.

/// Transport minister Theresa Villiers insisted that the Siemens bid represented "the best value for money for taxpayers" and would benefit Thameslink passengers with "modern, greener and more reliable trains".///

What she failed to say in this report is what she said on the TV news, that being it was European law that government contracts should represent the best value for money.

How can this be the best value for money, taking into account the expected loss of skilled jobs, but most important of all the loss of yet another British Manufacturer?

These redundant workers will either finish up on the dole or be forced to change their type of job, which means more losses to our skill base, and is it only the Germans that can provide us with "modern, greener and more reliable trains"?

Never mind green, sick of hearing that word. I never buy anything just because it's percieved to be 'green', nor should the government, all that matters is value for money!
Yes very short sighted. It seems that this government knows the price of everything but the value of nothing. Could you imagine the Germans allowing this to happen. Wasn't it the Tories who allowed our car industry to go to the wall. They blame it on a few wildcat strikers without thinking about the advantages of a highly skilled homegrown workforce.
Bombardier is a Canadian Company.

The rail division's headquarters are in Germany.

Interesting to note, post on Race or Homosexuality and the answers come in fast and furious.

But post on what is a national disgrace and some do not seem to care.
I see this matter has been referred up to the PM Cameron. I wonder what he thinks?

Rov sorry it wasn't a few wildcat strike but endless strikes, do it too often and companies either go bust, or find another place to build their cars, and goods.
