What magazine subscription would you recommend? As a treat I subscribed to Glamour but feel it is too glamourous, young and the clothes, make up etc advertised are out of my price range. Any ideas? I am (a youngish) 44, married, with no kids but have cats and dogs. I 'make do and mend', don't do a lot of cooking or travelling but don't feel I'm ready for Woman's Own yet. I have stopped buying loads of weekly celeb type mags in favour of one do-it-all mags, once a month and it seems to be cheaper to buy one on supscription each month. I quite fancy Easy Living, any ideas?
Many thanks
ps Is there a magazine called Boring!

I'm a subscriber and I find The Oldie a great read. It's packed with intelligent (but not too serious) writing and great cartoons. You don't have to be old to read it!

My (female) friend subscribes to Yours. It's also nominally targeted at a relatively 'mature' readership but, again, it's accessible by anyone:

Don't worry Chris! I bought Yours but it was a bit too old (gave it to my mun who loves it). Was looking for more 'my age' in terms of hobbies, clothes, make-up etc. Horrified the other day at a job interview were the manageress was about 18 years old, needless to say I didn't get the job! 44 outside, 17 inside, must clear goth clothes and purple eyeshadow from my wardrobe! Not to mention vinyl and videos....
Heat magazine. Theres a TV guide in it as well as gossip, fashion stuff, film review, book reviews, DVD reviews and interviews with a few famous peeps.
My mother used to read 'She', which is quite an 'intelligent read'. No, I don't mean when when was 95 years old! (She died at 60 anyway). It was her favourite read throughout my childhood and beyond. I see that it's still going strong (in a rather more modern form, of course!). It might be worth a look:

I was going to suggst She too
Sorry Wheaten, didn't see the "once a month" bit or the "give up the weekly celeb" bit.
what about cosmopolitan, she, woman and home.Marie Claire.
Hi - you could try 'Prima'. Affordable fashion, zero 'celeb' gossip, recipes, holiday info, offers, good website, crossword and other puzzles (some with prizes!) sensible articles. I've been taking it for a year now - never been disappointed!
I still quite like More magazine (even at the grand age of 42. lol) but I think that is weekly now rather than monthly.
Red is quite good, I subscribed to Easy Living when they had a good free gift (check out the free gifts before you subscribe). However the wrong free gift arrived and after a couple of months, the magazine was in the shops before it arrived in the post. So I cancelled, no problem cancelling but read the small print. Or how about Ideal Home?
Well I'm quite happy with the Kennel Gazette.
I subscribe to Prima and have done for over 10 years - I'm a similar age to you and it suits me down to the ground!
