Sorry, swarbrules, haven't a clue what you mean.
Question Author
The clue is: borders, merely edged by gravel ridges.

I'm trying not to give away the answer (a---s) so that I don't spoil it for others (unless anyone specifically asks).
An as IS a gravel ridge (a kame or esker)! You possible need a good dictionary :)
Question Author
I've got one :) but, one that assumes I know what an esker or kame is.

Thanks
If it's any consolation, it often crops up in crosswords - the only reason I know it.
I thought I'd completed this without too ,much difficulty but then I noticed 4down Bolt supplying first bit of cotton skirt (4) I have CHU? As far as I can see there is nothing in Chambers which corresponds to anything in the clue. Chubb has two B's and chug and chut and chum all seem to miss the mark Help please
Question Author
Sorry about the delay but, I thought this thread had finished. The answer (CHUG) isn't in my Chambers but, it does give hug and skirt as synonyms.
