A reserve is on the bench as a substitute in football etc.
double meaning - to book a ticket is to reserve one / in football a reserve player sits on the bench
Book=reserve, Left on the bench (substitute,or in the old days"reserve"

Can I ask another.... Genuine change needed for inexperienced girl. I had Eugenie, but now that I have CLIPPER for 5d, that doesn't fit. This is my last clue for the crossword - any help gratefully received.
