Yippee, I now have the four entries that need encoding, but still no idea how to find the keyword!
Hi Ripper,I'm in the same place! The keyword must relate to the common Shire but its eluding me!

Hi Ardboe
So far I've checked roads, railways, rivers, postcodes, moors, famous residents, industries.............. much head scratching!

Hi Spicer 47
I know it's to do with Devon, but if you have Devon followed by ABC etc.... or Devon followed by ABC without Devon letters I still can't work out the code
Perhaps I'm having a 'senior moment'!
Hi Ripper & Ardboe

I'm a little bit behind you both as I haven't yet got 8d, but in the absence of an inspired moment I think it can be slogged out. For example T (14d) is 2 after A, and (10a) 3 after F, ( so we have a small sequence F A - T), and we've got 3 Ys, 2 Gs & 3 Hs to work on. I'm not going to have time to do it today, but it'll probably send me to sleep very nicely for the rest of the week.
Penny dropped as soon as I'd posted! You're looking for a 13 letter word with Devon connections with 'F A - T' as part of it.
Many thanks kettledrum - would not have solved the keyword without your help.
I've been thinking the keyword is at 20A as this seems to make sense with the alphabet thing. Am I misleading myself?
Doh! Yes I was misleading myself (not for the first time)! The real word dawned on me after I posted this so have now finished the puzzle. Nice one!
