Do you have 39a? I'm stumped on it.
39a bareheaded
Can I have some help or hints with the unclued lights - I have GR?E?<<INNER<SHALLOW<COROLLA<BRACT< LEAF< DISH<C?I?S
Don't really understand what to do next??
Nor me. I have 38a as bareheaded. What do you have for 39a?
Sorry- handsturn

I had child 33 down to go with inner but obviously wrong now c?i?s
You should highlight 35a as it is an anagram of the words suggested by the four unclued pairings.
Oh. I get it. Plants. 35a is anagram of petal
Thank you K for your help!
Zita - 4 anagrams of leapt.

I am still stumped as plate is a dish and I can make 33 down _chips and 1 across gruel?
Thanks, K. PLATE?
A quickie as I'm off to the Rugby.

A plate is a shallow dish. Also look at Tepal, Pelta & Palet

cruciverbals ..1a Green
palet = inner bract, petal = corolla leaf, plate = shallow dish but what about green/greek c?i?s?
In his rush I'm afraid K "may" possibly have given you an unintentional mislead ?
look at Sepal, and not Pelta and I think that will put you straight on the correct associations.
I'm still stuck. Chambers gives TEPAL as an undifferentiated calyx/corolla and PELTA as a Greek light shield. Thanks for 39a, Roslyn
tenflags: sepal is not an anagram of 35a!

I have PLATE - shallow dish,
PETAL = corolla leaf (exactly def. in chambers)
PALET = inner bract,
LEPTA = Greek coins (the smallest ancient Greek coin, translated ‘mite’ in the New Testament (pl lepˈta))
Thanks dr b - lthought they were all to do with petals leaves & plant terminology. Lets hope next weeks isn't quite as puzzling!
thank you dr b
TEPAL was the anagram I was using which is defined as a PETAL or SEPAL the later given to look up) of which is stated as "green leaf" - which would mean that "coils" (as whorls) would run with 'corolla' - again fits.
I much prefer your solution though - even though LEPTA does not seem to be in Chambers it is in the OED, and is a more direct fit.
Regards
