i received a court fine of £400 back in 2005 which i paid straight away over the phone with my debit card,

i've recently been given another fine for speeding and the court sent me a letter saying that the fine imposed in 2005 hadn't been paid and must be done so when i paid off the most recent one.

i have a bank statement showing that i paid the fine in 2005 and on the statement it says it was paid to "her majesty's court service"

i sent a copy of the statement to the court to prove that it had been paid but they say they have no record of the transaction and the statement doesn't say which court it was paid to and Barclays say they dont keep records that far back.

What can i do in this situation, should i try and get the money back from the court or try and get it back from the bank as they cant prove who they paid the money to!

I'd push Barclays a bit more. They might have offline backups they can look at. Maybe they can check with their data centre.
