Well will you.....

http://www.redfridays.co.uk/j/

I will even if its a T Shirt or a bauble in my hair.

Its a show of solidarity -if thats your belief that the conflict should end.

Im not posting for a heavy debate-so go easy -just wanted to draw it to peoples attention and try to promote it of course.

its a stupid idea,

presumably on thursdays you dont care one way or another................
Sorry Dris..as a socialist I tend to wear red to highlight issues in relation to that political objective..

I'm not sure..in relation...to our troops it's enough to rely on this type of protest......but thank you for drawing attention to it....I was not aware....

Thats cool -everyone has their own opinion I was just drawing this to others and proferring my opinion.
Kinell -did you have to be so rude -I think what i said was pretty easy going.
Red symbolises Labour or the unions

ie.
"We'll keep the red flag flying here"

Red Robbo

Red Ken

etc

Without showing a red rag to a bull it would have been better in a different colour
And those damn Socialist Ferarris!
dont wear red write a red letter to the damn politicians who got the forces in there in the first place a silent majority wearing red is still a silent majority speak up
See, I thought the red connection was more to do with redcoats...

I think it's an interesting idea, and I don't think it's a particularly stupid one (gawd knows I've heard worse) - it's a perfectly valid form of expression, and the 'silent majority' premise is also very likely true.

But either way I don't think I will be. Naturally, I'm sympathetic to troops (not just 'ours' mind) for plenty of reasons which I'm pretty sure others will talk about, but I find the absolutely unconditional worship of them that a fair number of people have slightly distasteful.

Oh, it actually says on the site why Red was chosen... silly me.

Red is a Great Colour associated with:

* courage
* sacrifice
* bravery
* remembrance

It is one of the most prevalent colours in national flags
It gives advantage to sporting teams
Is our choice to show support for our Troops every Friday.

Must say, I find the sporting teams thing a bit strange...
I would turn out for a parade if one happened to be in my local town.
I will not however be wearing something red on a friday., unless by coincidence. The idea has too much cloying sentimentality and jingoism for my liking.
I would much rather give to the 'Support the Hero's Campaign'.

These collection sites are springing up all over, please give generously to a good cause.

Why hasn't the BBC supported our troops that are far from home?

They could have a special forces programme, where they could hear their requests played and talk to those back home.

Do any of our top entertainers go over there to put on shows? you never hear of the likes of Jim Davison, who did many shows during the Falkland war.

Thanks for all your varied answers - I can see everyones point -i'm not blinkered as such.

Maybe a silent majority showing strength wont work but protests dont seem to either -I would gladly join any march.

I do speak up -quite vociferously at times about this particular subject and have done to 'pertinent' people but its a done deed and the recession couldnt have come at a better time for the Government.Cynic -moi?

Anyway I did wear a red T Shirt today -just my own little show of support set apart from anything else I can and would do.

O BTW -valid points which I agree with AOG -especially a channel.I remember Soccer AM used to dedicate a feature to the troops abroad -worldwide- and I always used to sit there with tears of pride in my eyes thinking how proud their families would be to see them happy and on the tele for a good reason -big softie !
