Hello EV N&C Wine Clubbers
My first reaction when looking at the grid was to think "impossible". But the clues were mainly gifts and using "copy", "cut" and "paste" as suggested in the superfluous "solving strategies" resolved the placing of all the answers.
Had to take a break, while herself attacked the GK on the reverse, but at least for those who send in solutions don't have the two grids clashing.
Hope there is no need for the dunces corner this week, rather it is a solvers celebration corner, as it fortunately
turned out to be last week. Hope it was all tidied up, with bottles and packaging recycled!
Ciao

Hi DocHH!
Didn't even look at the "solving strategies". As you rightly observe the clues were mainly gifts and I twigged as soon as I'd solved the 43rd and 45th ones. Going to take a break soon to top up my glass so I'll just say "Bottoms up!!"

Hello Novalis
Having completed all the crosswords in the Telegraph, I have nothing remaining(?) to do. Have chosen an appropriate Vin de Pays D'Oc for tonight.
A nice Merlot for me this evening.
Likewise nothing to do ( apart from cooking my evening meal ). It's been a "strange" sort of Sunday with having completed all three crosswords before I had my morning jog. By now I'm usually teraing out what little grey hair I have left out of frustration with the EV.
I got the puzzle at about 7 pm last night thanks to Dave M. (who must have been sending it about 1 AM UK time!) and finished pretty quickly. Couldn't they have made the hidden hints in Latin, or Middle Hittite, or something? Oh well, this gives us a Spectator and EV back-to-back with (relatively) easy clues and just a little work to fit them in the grid. Karmic justice would imply that next week's will be killers.
Hello all. Haven't even opened it yet as have had major gardening needs plus all the excess purple sprouting to make into flans and there is also whining from Himself about how lovely rhubarb pies are................. so after getting this piece on the road and the queue of other tasks lining up it looks as though it will be a week on Thursday before I( get a look! Can't imagine I won't need a a dunces corner and NO we did not re-cycle,we had a bonfire with the packaging and filled the bottles with home-made ginger beer!
Am I the only person on the planet who thinks we should be addressing the problem of too much waste at source and not scuttling round like twits wondering if we have filed the appropriate rubbish in the right little box or we will get a slap from Big Brother!! I take all my excess packaging back to the supermarket/supplier who sold it to me and am hoping if enough people do it they will get the message. Off high horse now and going to do some serious work.
Hi Novalis - go on throw that empty in the wrong coloured glass bin..........................................
Hi all
I'm playing catch-up as have just got back from holiday and haven't looked at last week's EV never mind this week's. Managed a glass or two of rose (ooo - can't find how to put the accent in) after gardening and now ironing pile has reached a desperate height. Hopefully have more time tomorrow for crosswords.
Good morning all. Success! Started AND finished it late last night. To my amazement had the 4 grids right without trying, but not left with nothing to do, as had missed the latest Rainbow quiz coming out and now have to tackle it urgently.
Oh and Novalis, Top of the morning to you!
.....and bringing up the rear as ever, hello everyone! Have managed most clues and just need to pu them into the grid. Maybe no dunces in the corner this week, but since the weather's so nice, how about a garden party? Will bring homemade lemonade and some apricot ice cream .....
Apricot ice cream sounds wonderful. I once had almond ice cream, not bits of almond, but almond flavoured and that was gorgeous.
A garden party sounds just the job!! I'll bring some red, white and rose.
May I join you - I can bring some Pimms with lots of fruit and ice, plus a large parasol to prevent our winter-bleached bodies from sunburn.
Have finished last week's EV so feel justified in resting for a while before tackling yesterday's.

Hello Everyone,
Sorry to be so silent today, but have had lots of things to do, including attending a Local Talking Newspaper Committee Meeting. We have our AGM on saturday and needed to "in Management Speak" get all the ducks lined up!! Meeting lasts less than 40 minutes, but then we have luncheon! Great fun as it is the probably only time each year, we,the volunteers meet our Listeners, most of whom are over 80 and regale us with their life-style experiences. Have not met one Listener who has complained about the service.
Sorry, but I've never been to a garden party, Liz and Phil have never invited me, I'll bring whatever else is needed. Or should I wait for Devadolly to bring her completed EV entry ticket?
The more the merrier Ringer. I'm just enjoying a glass ( or more ) of a very palitable Argentinian red from our local Bargain Booze. Should have been 7.99 but on half-price offer. As to this week's EV you should be alright with it then have nothing left to do.
DocHH! Keep up the good work re the Talking Newspaper.. That there is a definite need for such things merely shows how lucky we are to be able to tackle EV and other crosswords.
Well, sorry to be so late checking in , but our computer has been on the blink for the past 5 days. I never thought I'd miss it , but it has invidiously become part of my life. ( how sad methinks ) There will surely be no dunces' corner this week ..... is EV dumbing down a bit ???? that's apart from the superfluous SS. A garden party sounds a great idea. DocHH, you must have been to a few i.e. a party in a garden where the wine flows. I think I might be welcome as when I came home from work today, there, behind the front door, was a bottle of champagne, courtesy of The Independent, Inquisitor. I'll bring it along ( without its packaging, Devadolly ) So I've hit a winning streak, hooray, but more than willing to share with fellow EV N&C Wine clubbers. DocHH, I spoke to a very junior person on our local paper about talking newspapers and she'd never heard about it. What sort of circulation does your local paper have?

Hello Copelander,
You probaly spoke to the wrong person. There are a lot of Local Talking Newspaper Associations. We operate under the auspices of the Talking Newspaper Association of the UK. Probably Google-able as TNAUK. Our local TNA sends out a weekly round-up of the local newspaper an hour long tape, plus a sunday tape also an hour long, of non-national items, eg Wogans world, Mandrake etc.and any amusing non-political items. We also have a monthly magazine tape and a weekly sports tape! We record onto computer hard disc, but then use technology to transfer to cassette and despatch those cassette tapes our Listeners. The whole thing for our Listeners is free of charge, no subscription fee, and the tapes are sent to and from the Listeners under a free system of post for the visually impaired. We have about 350 Listeners, but not all want all of our deliverables, We are currently lookind at changing our deliverable to memory sticks and providing what amounts to mp3 players to our Listeners. We, as other TNAs are financed by donations and legacies.
Sorry if I've bored anyone,
Ciao
Not boring at all, Doc HH. In fact interesting. I might try to get involved when I return to the UK It sounds like a very worthwhile thing to do.
Really, really interesting DocHH. I'll read all you've said and google the appropriate site tomorrow or Wednesday, when I usually have a bit more time to think.. Yes DocHH and Christiana, a very worthwhile way to spend some time, apart from EVers garden parties!!!!
Hi Copelander!

Many congratulations on your win.
