PIANOFORTE seems obvious, being an anagram of ONE A PROFIT.....

Thanx Spaghetti - your suggestion is logical and fits the clue but it doesn't fit the letters I already have.
Seeks to deceive more than one bank - cloUds
Middle part of statement omitted from free balance - libRate
Summer in Paris in clubs, right new tie being worn with others - et cEteri ( I know it's not in any dictionary but it is a legitimate latin expression)
Saw fist broken gatecrashing meeting - sat I sfying
In the money, he's one wanting to deposit yen - hanKer
This setter - Enigmatist - seems to delight in dredging up obscure words and the use of "antique"in the clue seems to indicate a very old seldom used word.
Help!!!!!!!
I see what you mean. I don't do anything in the Guardian except the monthly 'Genius' and Azed, and I can't find this crossword on their website to have a look at it. What day was it published?

Thanx for getting back to me.. I don't know when it was published in the UK as I live in Australia. It is syndicated to a number of papers and was published in the Brisbane Courier Mail this morning. There appears to be a "gap" of about 5-6 weeks between publishing in the UK and OZ. Eg. on March 20 a puzzle set by Araucaria referenced bicentarians. When solved the reference was to Darwin and Lincoln - both born on February 12, 1809. That will give you an idea of the time lag. Any help wud be appreciated.
I seem to recall the answer was FORTEPIANO, as an alternative to pianoforte. That means your U and K are wrong. I'll see if I can remember what they should have been . . .
Fortepiano is correct, and 12ac should be BLUFFS, 25ac EARNER
Seeks to deceive more than one bank might be BLUFFS

Of course you are both right Spaghetti and turnerjmw. Many thanx for your help. It's been nice talking to you!
By the way, you might find this site useful. It has a search function, and these puzzles get discussed there. There's a hidden message in this crossword which I totally failed to spot.

. . . and give my regards to Brisbane. I have family out there!
