The word 'engage'.

Why do people use the word engage when they mean talk? It drives me mad. Teachers 'engage' with their pupils, social workers 'engage' with their clients, ....is it the latest buzz word?

I guess engage implies talking as well as listening.
Cpt. Jean Luc Picard says "Engage" and it seems to work for him and if you are going to criticize the captain of the Starship Enterprise i will have to ask you to step outside!
I think we should push the envelope to touch base and engage in some thought showers to enable us to think outside the box and hopefully we can come up with a proactive solution to this problem
