How do you open the back door on our Renault which is jammed shut ? The door lock mechanism appears to be broken. The knob on the door (the one which goes down when you operate the central locking) is in the down position and cannot be pulled up by hand. The lock mechanism cannot be removed beacause the door needs to be opened first. You can get access to the door hinges by opening the front door but the rear door will still be locked onto the bolt that the door lock clips onto. Short of using a crow bar I cannot see how the door can be opened.

The car is a Renault Megane 5 door hatchback, 1999 phase two.

Hi, Try with a friend one opperating the door handle from the outside with the person lifting the locking knob inside the car at the same time ( If that makes sense, If that does not work Push the drivers seat as far forward as it will go remove the base of the rear seat take offthe door handle + the Locking knob, if it had a ashtray there will be one internal screw, the the handle itself, be carefull on this start to pull the door panel away from the main door frame you then can access the mech of the lock. A long screwdriver will be needed to unclip the lock.
