Sorry, Cruciverbalist. Did not see this post until today. Spotted this one straight away, having been tipped off during my tutoring sessions. I loved doing this crossword and although I know it was easy by comparison to most EV, felt a sense of achievement. I doubt that I would have been able to complete back in July, but thanks to you and others have made the grade on this one. Hope you are well. Nice to hear from you.

I'm really glad you are enjoying this series so much. Despite what others have suggested in these threads, EV has contributions from some of the toughest setters around, and therefore can be just as tricky to solve as Inquisitor or The Listener. Speaking of which, if you get the chance do give the latter a try - published at the back of the 'Books' section in the Saturday Times newspaper, and with a 12 day deadline, compared to just 5 for EV.

if I have more time next holiday I wll certainly look at the suggested puzzles. Things are a bit hectic at work at the moment but two more weeks and it will be half term. Have to work this Saturday as we have open day (odd for a state school I know!). Thanks for your suggestion.

Sounds like you have a busy weekend lined up - hope you get time to watch the Rugby !
We went to London at the weekend and ended up in Paddington watching the Aussie match. Funnily, the table in front of us had a large group of Aussies on it. They were quite vocal in their support at first but quickly grew quiet in the second half. Afterwards, one of them shook our hands and said, "Good on ya! Anyway, I'm actually a Kiwi and have to dash to catch a train. We're all off to watch a proper rugby match in Cardiff!" He explained that they all had front row, centre line seats. We did see him on TV in a crowd shot, cheering like mad. Poor man.
Will definitely be able to watch the Rugby, and have high hopes of having the football projected in one of the labs.
Hope it's a good one....

I'd completely forgotten the other shaped football, should be a great day's sport. Love the story about the Kiwi, that's certainly one to treasure ! Hope the open-day goes well for you on Saturday.

all that and another EV to look forwards to on Sunday! Hope it's not one of those with no bars or numbers. Haven't attempted one of those yet adn would not know where to start, so again, any advice on that particular type would be appreciated.
Have photocopied this week's to give to my crossword lunch-mates to prove that I'm not mad and they can be done.
See you next week....
by the way, are we allowed to post our email addresses on this site? It would be nice to communicate that way for conversations such as these.
Question Author
Having checked the Site Rules, I don't see why not - I have noticed from other threads that some other message boarders have shared e-mail addresses. Mine is [email protected]
